Thank you for your interest in yoga!

At Jeweled Lotus
tm Yoga we strive to provide you with a safe, enjoyable, and relaxing introduction to the practice of yoga . Whether you want to relax, sweat, lose weight, increase flexibility, or de-stress, we offer a class to fit your needs.

Yoga is a body-mind exercise that can help you improve your flexibility & balance, achieve mental clarity, increase physical strength, and promote feelings of wellbeing.

The practice of yoga meets you where you are, right now. Give yourself permission to rest & allow your body to accept the practice gradually. Unlike other forms of exercise, yoga is a complete lifestyle system that incorporates mindfulness, proper breathing teachniques, meditation, and attitudes towards yourself & others. If you're looking for a way to make a positive life change - & feel good doing so - then you've found it!

As you embark on your journey to a regular yoga practice, remember to respect your body & enjoy yourself! Take a few moments to read the following information to familiarize yourself with the practice of yoga, how to get started, and to find answers to some frequently asked questions.

Ready to begin? Please take a moment to read the list of common questions & their answers below. From there, take a look at our
schedule to find a class style and class time that works best for you. You may also print the new student form and bring it with you on your first visit. Check out our flexible pricing options, then get directions from your door to the studio.
Our teachers are highly trained in the anatomy, sequencing, & health benefits of yoga postures (asanas) & breathing practices (pranayama), so feel free to ask questions, to offer feedback, & to communicate with our teachers. Most importantly, be prepared to ENJOY yourself in the class you choose to attend!

Still have questions? Call

We look forward to welcoming you.

Frequently asked questions
1. What class should I attend?
Start at the beginning in our Yoga Basics class if you have zero yoga experience. You may start the class at any time.  If you cannot make this time slot work for you, please contact Kellie.

2. What should I bring to class?
Bring a yoga mat if you have one and a towel if you like. We have both for rent at the studio if you prefer.

3. What should I wear to class?

Comfortable, breathable clothing in which you can move & stretch. Natural fibers are preferred.

4. What style of yoga is right for me?
We teach 4 styles of Hatha Yoga at our studio - they appeal to different folks. We suggest you give all of them a try at least once: Yoga Basics, Vinyasa Flow/Power, Hot, Restorative. Take advantage of our new student package and give yourself a chance to try all the styles we offer. We look foward to welcoming you! PLEASE NOTE: If you have a shoulder or wrist injury, are pregnant & have never done yoga, have high blood pressure, or suffer from fibromyalgia, then please avoid the Vinyasa Flow, Power, & Ashtanga classes. If you have fibromyalgia, chronic fatique syndrome, high blood pressure, or are pregnant, please avoid the Hot yoga classes. If you are pregnant & have never practiced yoga, you will need to bring a note from your physician clearing you to begin a yoga practice.

5. How frequently should I practice yoga?
As frequently as possible. Yoga is cumulative; the more you practice, the better you'll feel. We offer a number of different pricing options and class series at competitive and affordable prices.

6. Should I eat before practicing yoga?
Yoga is best done on an empty stomach; but, if you haven't eaten all day then please eat something light and easily digestible, like a piece of fruit.

7. What should I drink before/during/after yoga class?
Water is always the best choice though if you've attended a Hot or vigorous power class, you may want to cool down & refresh with a natural coconut water (we have it in the studio!).

8. I'm not flexible, can I still do yoga?
Yes. Yoga is not just for flexible people - yoga is what people do to become more flexible.

9. Is yoga safe for everyone?
The short answer is "yes," because if you're listening to your body you will avoid injury; however, if you have a pre-existing medical condition, please consult your physician before attending your first class and please let your instructor know of this condition BEFORE participating.

10. What is Vinyasa Flow yoga?
Vinyasa Flow yoga is a style of Hatha Yoga characterized by flowing movements and fluid transitions between poses. Vinyasa is a word that means "to link movement with breath." This style of yoga, unlike other forms of Hatha yoga, will increase cardiovascular tone, improve muscle definition, decrease fat mass, and improve sleep when practiced regularly (3 or more times/week).  We recommend students be familiar with the fundamentals of Hatha Yoga before trying this style. Start with the Yoga Basics class first, if you can.

11. How hot is Hot Yoga?
Hot Yoga here at Jeweled Lotus is done in a room heated to around 90 degrees Farenheit. We use both the A/C unit and space heaters to achieve this temperature. Why? Hot yoga stretches the deep tissues of the body and if those tissues are not warm, they will tear rather than stretch (ouch!): hence, the heat. Give it a try!

12. Is yoga a religion?
No. No. No. Yoga is a complete system of physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
